E-257: Dry January, AJ Fernandez New World & Legal Gaming Terms

Podcast 257, 2/7/2016 … We actually don’t drink any alcohol this show! In honor of Dry January, which we just completed…well, some people completed…we wanted to talk about the fact that it’s even a thing! Don’t worry, we’re back next week with bourbon-y goodness, we promise! Fortunately, our friend Duane from Oklahoma gave us a call and a review of the 1972 and he used the VLO Spirits Sheet which you can get by clicking here! Also, if you’re so inclined to enjoy ‘mocktails’ sometime, you should check these drinks out here.

We also review the AJ Fernandez New World & New World Connecticut cigars. Jason enjoyed his, Tony thought the AJF-NWC may have leaped onto his Top 10 Cigar list! You know Tony likes a smoke if he’ll add it to his Top 10!

Finally, we discuss online gaming terms to help sort out what exactly means what in the industry.

Remember: Louisville, KY and the 5th Anniversary of the Vice Lounge Online will take place Thursday, March 31 – Sunday, April 3 at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana and downtown Louisville. We’re going to check out the Maker’s Mark & Woodford Reserve distilleries! Plus we’ll be having dinner at Doc Crow’s and Jeff Ruby while in town. If you think you might swing by and hang out with us, please make sure to let us know so we can include you in the RSVP numbers we’re giving to our contacts!

The UK has a much higher per-capita alcohol consumption level than the US, as anyone who has seen pub owners hosing down the sidewalk puke the morning after will attest (one of my most vivid memories of London).

Binge drinking (as defined by the US and UK governments) is also more common there. The 18-year-old drinking age does not lead to more responsible alcohol consumption, I can assure you.

Interestingly, the UK govt just slashed recommended drinking levels for men, cutting them to the same as women (most countries, US included, allow men more alcohol per week under “low-risk” guidelines).

It also says, unlike the USDA, that low to moderate alcohol consumption has no health benefits for most people.

Dry January is part of this movement.
